CINCINNATI, Ohio. — Bellarmine women's tennis returned to the court less than 24 hours after a trip to Kentucky, falling by a final score of 4-0 at Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats prevailed in doubles, winning the no. 2 and no. 3 slots. The no. 1 team of
Madison Devillez and
Ekaterina Tikhonko trailed just 3-2 but their match went unfinished.
Tikhonko was also in a tight singles battle with Elizabeth Pendergast. Tikhonko won the first set 6-2, lost the second set 6-0, and was leading the third set 1-0. With the other results rolling in, however, Tikhonko's singles match went unfinished as well.
Iona Guna, Maria Santilli, and Emma Miceli were victorious in no.3, no. 4, and no. 5 singles to lock up the Cincinnati win.
Knights Head Coach
Brian Slack was content with his team's effort against a scrappy Cincinnati squad.
"We came out and competed today," Slack said. "Cincinnati makes you play a lot of balls and puts you in tough situations. They are well coached. I was happy with how we fought for each point today. We will get back to work this week for the start of the conference schedule."
Bellarmine begins its second season of ASUN action on Friday, March 18 at Florida Gulf Coast.
