LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Bellarmine Men's Basketball Coach
Scott Davenport announced today the formation and launch of the Davenport Family Scholarship to offset tuition costs for the student managers in the men's basketball program and to the recognize their selfless commitment to the Bellarmine Basketball Program.
The primary fundraiser for the foundation will the Davenport Derby Dash with the inaugural event being held Wednesday, May 4. The event consists of a handicapping seminar and a live/silent auction, blending a few of Coach Davenport's passions: helping young people, Bellarmine Basketball, and of course the Kentucky Derby.
The lead gift for the foundation has been graciously provided by the Trager Family Foundation, without their help, and their commitment to the community, none of this would be possible.
Additionally, the response from Bellarmine donors and alumni has been overwhelming. The inaugural Derby Dash event has already sold out and the request for auction has been met enthusiastically with contributions from coming from celebrities and well-respected entities within the thoroughbred industry. Among the contributors are Jay Bilas, Coach Mike Brey, Churchill Downs Inc., and Claiborne Farm.
Coach Davenport and the entire Davenport family are thrilled that due to the generosity and support of the community a Bellarmine education will be more accessible to those who seek it.
Contributions to the fund can be made by contacting the Bellarmine University Office of Development, Alumni Relations and Special Events at 502-272-8320.
