LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Lipscomb launched four home runs in defeating the Bellarmine University baseball team 13-3 Saturday in ASUN action at Knights Field.
Junior designated hitter
Noah Nelson smacked the first homer of his career for Bellarmine (3-23, 1-7 ASUN), a two-run shot in the second that tied the game at 3-all. Lipscomb (14-13, 3-5) scored the final 10 runs of the contest while clinching the series.
It was Cam McMillan's three-run homer in the fourth that gave Lipscomb the lead for good. Rudy Maxwell capped a five-run eighth with a two-run blast. Trace Willhoite and Maddux Houghton also parked solo homers.
Lipscomb scored at least one run in six different innings, while Bellarmine didn't score after the second inning. Junior catcher
Gabe Bratetic had an RBI ground out in the first, and Nelson followed with his two-run homer in the second, but the Bisons held the Knights scoreless the rest of the way.
Collin Witze (2-1) earned the win for Lipscomb with 4.0 scoreless innings of relief. Led by Witzke, four Bisons relievers combined for 6.0 shutout innings.
Senior righthander
Matt Craven and junior righthanders
Ryan Johnson,
Joe Wilkinson and
Devin Ecklar each tossed 1.0 inning of relief and did not allow an earned run for the Knights.
Senior third baseman
Colin Bertsch and junior second baseman
Brett Pfaadt notched two hits apiece for Bellarmine.
Bellarmine and Lipscomb will conclude the three-game series at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
