LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Liberty defeated the Bellarmine University women's tennis team 7-0 Friday in ASUN action at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
Liberty (17-5, 6-1 ASUN) captured the doubles point by winning 6-3 in both the Nos. 2 and 3 matches. Seniors
Madison Devillez and
Ashley Jonathan were leading 5-4 at No. 1 doubles for Bellarmine (1-20, 0-7), but their match went unfinished as the Flames had clinched the point.
Jonathan engaged in a highly competitive contest at No. 3 singles with Liberty's Eloise Saraty. Jonathan won the first set in a tiebreaker, and Saraty did the same in the second set. Saraty ultimately won another tiebreaker to secure the match.
Bellarmine freshman
Ekaterina Tikhonko and M. Juliana P. Romero also had a tight battle at No. 1 singles. Romero edged Tikhonko 7-5 in the first set and followed with a 6-3 clincher.
Bellarmine will host Stetson in ASUN play at 10 a.m. Thursday.
