LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Matt Higgins garnered second-team All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings, the organization announced Friday.
This is the second All-America accolade for the Bellarmine University senior outfielder, who also received second-team plaudits from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The Louisville native was previously a consensus Division II All-American in 2019 and represents the first Knights athlete in any sport among the BU programs that transitioned from D2 in the 2020-21 school year to earn D1 All-America recognition.
The latest acknowledgment adds to the heap of awards that Higgins has piled up this postseason. In addition to the two All-America notices, the product of Trinity (Ky.) High School was named ASUN Player of the Year, first-team ASUN All-Conference and ABCA/Rawlings first-team All-Midwest Region.
Higgins finished the regular season tied for eighth nationally in home runs (a program-record 22) and was ninth in slugging percentage (.770). The two-time ASUN Player of the Week batted .366 with 78 hits, 20 doubles, 61 RBI, 61 runs scored and 15 stolen bases. Higgins played error-free in the outfield.
This season, Higgins set the all-time program records for career homers (45) and RBI (185). In addition, he finished his distinguished career third all-time in hits (261) and runs scored (174), fourth in doubles (57) and sixth in batting average (.372).
