Title IX Stephanie Clemons

Celebrating 50 years of Title IX: All-American Stephanie Tracy Clemons

To recognize the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, Bellarmine Athletics is highlighting nine women who have made remarkable impacts on our programs. In today's  sixth installment, we focus on an outstanding basketball player and the first woman to earn First Team All-America honors at Bellarmine:  Stephanie Tracy Clemons.

At the time of her graduation in 1989, Stephanie held 13 school records, and despite a plethora of outstanding women's basketball talent over the past three decades, her name still sits atop a good many of those.  Perhaps most impressively, she remains the only player in program history to total more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.  In fact, she's still the all-time leading scorer and rebounder with 1,936 points and 1,085 rebounds.

A three-time All-American, Stephanie became Bellarmine's first, first-team All-America selection her senior season after earning second-team accolades from the American Women's Sports Federation in 1987 and 1988.  She also was well-decorated by the Great Lakes Valley Conference, winning Player of the Year honors in 1989 and was a three-time All-GLVC performer.

The Bellarmine team also enjoyed much success during Stephanie's playing career. In her four years, Bellarmine compiled a record of 83-32 with two trips to the NCAA tournament, including the school's first-ever trip to the Elite 8 in 1986.

Stephanie was inducted into the Bellarmine Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000, but her legacy extends even beyond that as the mother of a former Bellarmine player. She and her husband, Bryan (who also played basketball for the Knights), are parents to Morgan Clemons Davis, who graduated from Bellarmine in 2015.
