LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's soccer team will make its 2022 road debut when the Knights travel to IUPUI to meet the Jaguars in a 7 p.m. (ET) contest Thursday.
Bellarmine (0-1) was supposed to open the season with two home games; however, Sunday's contest with Southern Illinois was ultimately postponed with 12:21 left in the first half due to inclement weather.
As a result, Bellarmine's only game remains last Thursday's 2-1 home loss to Wright State. The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when junior forward
Sophie Bish found freshman midfielder
Alexa Orozco for a goal off a set piece, but the Raiders leveled the match in the 40th minute and delivered the game-winner in the 80th minute.
Paul Babba made his head-coaching debut for Bellarmine against Wright State. IUPUI (2-0) will represent his first leading the Knights on the road.
The Jaguars are off to a strong start in 2022, notching road wins over Tennessee Tech, 1-0, and SIUE, 3-2. In the latter contest, IUPUI faced deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 before rallying with two unanswered goals to complete a comeback victory.
Maya Lacognato scored twice against SIUE, including the game-winner, in leading IUPUI with two goals on the season. Emma Frey also scored against the Cougars, and Emma Antoine connected for the game-winner against Tennessee Tech. Goalkeeper Ashton Kuklo collected nine saves, including seven against SIUE, over the first two games.
