JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Junior midfielder
Brynn Severance has become the Bellarmine University women's soccer program's first-ever ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced Wednesday while unveiling its postseason awards.
In addition to that honor, Severance was named second-team All-ASUN alongside junior defender
Cameron Dye. Sophomore forward
Katie Paulakonis landed first-team accolades. It was the third straight season in which the Knights produced three All-ASUN recipients.
Midfielders
Ella Flynn and
Rachel Shewmaker were recognized on the ASUN All-Freshman Team. The Knights have taken home five of those citations in the last two years.
Bellarmine had six players meet the plethora of requirements for the Academic All-ASUN Team. They were Severance, Dye,
Dakota Bramer,
Sydney Elbert,
Anna Jenkins and
Mckenzie Price.
Severance is Bellarmine's second-ever ASUN postseason superlative award recipient after
McKenzie Carle garnered ASUN Freshman of the Year laurels in 2024. The native of Strongsville, Ohio, reaped All-ASUN plaudits for the second straight year after being acknowledged on the third team last season. A 2026 Preseason All-ASUN Team selection, Severance is the team leader among field players with 1,453 minutes while registering two goals and one assist. She was named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 26. In the classroom, Severance carries a 3.94 GPA while majoring in biology and is an annual member of the ASUN Honor Roll.
In her breakout sophomore campaign, Paulakonis ranks first in the ASUN in points per game (1.18), second in total goals (eight) and total points (20), and tied for second in assists (four) and game-winning goals (three). The product of Hillsborough, North Carolina, has supplied five goals and four assists in conference play. She has a pair of braces on the season, both of which were followed by ASUN Player of the Week nods.
A stalwart center back, Dye is second to Severance among field players in minutes with 1,439. In her 16 games this season, the native of Powell, Ohio, has been absent from the field for a single minute. She's heavily contributed to five shutouts and collected a goal against Marshall.
Flynn and Shewmaker have been instant impact freshmen in the defensive midfield. Flynn is a two-time ASUN Defensive Player of the Week who ranks second on the team in goals (five), has logged 1,401 minutes and has shifted to center back when necessary and continued to perform admirably. Like her freshman counterpart, Shewmaker has also started every game, amassed 1,318 minutes and chipped in a goal and an assist to complement exceptional defense and ball winning.
Regular-season champion FGCU hauled in several ASUN superlative awards, including co-Player of the Year Keira Morgan, Defensive Player of the Year Sarah Greiner, Freshman of the Year Kaitlin Gabelman and Coach of the Year Jim Blankenship. North Florida's Paige McSwigan shared Player of the Year honors with Morgan while West Florida's Karla Guzman-Ortiz was named Goalkeeper of the Year.
