LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Bellarmine women's golf team kicks off its 2022-23 campaign at Youngstown State's Roseann Schwartz Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Mill Creek North golf course.
 
For Coach Art Henry, there's not much different for his squad this season as he lost just one player—Olivia Pennybaker, to graduation—and added one new player, Elizabeth Duncan, a graduate transfer from the University of South Dakota.
 
While junior Josephine Bonin returns after a sensational sophomore season, the Knights will have to wait until the spring for her services as she completes a study abroad semester in Australia this fall. The native of Levallois-Perret, France (a suburb of Paris), established a new Bellarmine record for low season stroke average last year, when she logged 21 rounds with an average of 76.48.  She also tied Sarah DuPlessis's school record for low 18-hole round by firing a 69 last year at Butler's fall tournament.
 
Even with Bonin out of the lineup until the spring, the Knights still have a strong core of returners.  Senior Alaina Schmidt also averaged below 80 last season and ranked second on the team with a stroke average of 79.  Sophomore Matti Spalding turned in a solid freshman year with flashes of brilliance as she broke 75 three times in her 24 competitive rounds. 
 
Meanwhile, returning senior Caroline McCrorey and junior Jessica Stephens were workhorses for Coach Art Henry last year, playing in every event. Stephens carded her best collegiate round last season when she fired a 72 at Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate last fall while McCrorey's best round a year ago was 76 at Butler.
 
The Knights will play in five events this fall, and their spring schedule is still being finalized.
