Spurlock scores twice, but Stetson rallies for 3-2 win over women's soccer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Stetson scored three second-half goals in rallying to defeat the Bellarmine University women's soccer team 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in ASUN action at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Sophomore forward Clara Spurlock scored her first two goals of the season for Bellarmine (4-8-5, 1-6-3 ASUN). Sophomore defender Emily Passini and freshman defender Teagan Douglas double assisted on Spurlock's second goal against Stetson (3-11-3, 3-5-2).

Bellarmine commanded the first half. In the eighth minute, Spurlock intercepted a pass at the top of the box and slotted a shot from 8 yards inside the far post for a quick 1-0 lead.

Bellarmine boosted the advantage to 2-0 in the 20th minute. Passini found Douglas inside the box with a through ball, and Spurlock converted from the 6 off a cross from Douglas. It was the first career assist, respectively, for both Passini and Douglas.

Stetson came to life in the second half after Jillian Therrien nailed a nice strike from the left wing in the 59th minute. With momentum on their side, the Hatters then equalized the contest in the 73rd minute after Annika Seem capitalized on an open look near the top of the box off a loose ball following a corner kick.

Stetson overtook Bellarmine when Kelly Gende made a similarly impressive strike to Therrien's rip in the 84th minute for the go-ahead goal. Georgia Place assisted on the first and third goals.

Bellarmine attempted a pair of shots after Stetson surged into the lead, but the Knights were unable to draw back even.

Both teams finished with 12 shots. The Knights had a 7-4 advantage in attempts in the first half, but the Hatters had an 8-5 edge after the break. BU totaled one more shot on frame at 7-6.

Bellarmine will host Eastern Kentucky at 1 p.m. (ET) Saturday in the season finale. The Knights will celebrate Senior Day.
