LOUISVILLE, Ky.—A senior led the way on Senior Night.
Bellarmine's
Bailey Venard had another sensational night with her 16 kills leading the way to a 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-10, 25-17) victory over Austin Peay in Atlantic Sun volleyball action in Knights Hall on Saturday. The Cincinnati native made just two attack errors in 32 swings to post an attack percentage of .438.
Venard wasn't the only Knight playing at a high level. Freshman
Maddie Hagan hit .500 while recording 12 kills, and
MaryAnn O'Toole—another Senior Night honoree—recorded 10 kills. As a team, Bellarmine posted a .339 attack percentage, the second-highest this season. The highlight came in set three when the Knights made no attack errors and hit an incredible .561.
A couple of other Senior Night honorees also celebrated their day with great matches. Setter
Macie Garrison notched a double-double with 22 assists and 12 digs while classmate
Anna Lococo came up with a match-high 16 digs and recorded two service aces.
The victory lifted the Knights to 7-5 in league play, which is fourth in the ASUN with several teams still in action that can tie them in the standings.
Austin Peay was led by Jamie Seward's nine kills. The Governors drop to 10-15 overall with a 3-9 league mark.
Bellarmine has just four matches remaining in the regular season. The Knights travel to North Alabama and Central Arkansas next week before returning for a mid-week match against Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 8. Bellarmine closes the regular season at Kennesaw State on Nov. 11.
The top eight teams in the ASUN qualify for the postseason tourney, which will be played in Ft. Myers, Florida Nov. 16-18.
