LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Senior guard
Claire Knies piled up a career-high 23 points and the Bellarmine University women's basketball team had an impressive showing offensively, but, as expected, No. 4 UCLA was no slouch in that area either in capturing a 113-64 victory over the Knights on Sunday at venerable Pauley Pavilion.
Knies' career high in points was accompanied by a career-best six made 3-pointers for Bellarmine (0-2). Two seasons ago, she had 21 points behind five 3-pointers against Cincinnati. Knies buried six of her nine attempts from deep against UCLA (3-0) and added five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Cam Browning also got in a shooting rhythm. The senior forward produced 13 points while sinking a pair of 3-pointers. Overall, Bellarmine drilled 12 3-pointers on 32 attempts from long range.
Junior guard
Hope Sivori nearly had a double-double after supplying 10 points and eight assists for Bellarmine, which matched UCLA in the second quarter with 24 points.
UCLA fully cashed in on its size advantage and Bellarmine's shorthanded interior. The Bruins had a 56-24 rebounding advantage, including 25 offensive boards, and amassed 52 points in the paint.
UCLA had four players score over 20 points, led by 30 from Gabriela Jaquez and 24 from Charisma Osborne, who accounted for six of the Bruins' 13 triples.
Bellarmine will play at 7 p.m. (ET) Thursday at Louisville.
