AKRON, Ohio — Despite a career-high 30 points from
Hayley Harrison, the Bellarmine University women's basketball team fell 88-65 to Akron on Thursday in James A. Rhodes Arena.
Harrison supplied nearly half of Bellarmine's points after going 10-for-20 from the field with a trio of 3-pointers while also sinking 7-of-9 from the free-throw line for the Knights (4-7). The junior guard cracked at least 20 points for the third time this season, including her previous career high of 23 points in the season opener against San Jose State.
Harrison was only rebound shy of a double-double, with her monster effort including a career-high nine boards. Senior guard
Mackenzie Keelin added 10 points off the bench and sophomore guard
Miyah Brown collected eight rebounds against Akron (4-5), which got 22 points and 10 rebounds from seemingly surefire MAC Player of the Year candidate Reagan Bass.
Akron got red hot from the perimeter in spurts and ended up hitting 14 of its 31 3-point attempts compared to a 6-for-19 performance from Bellarmine. The Zips were 6-for-10 from deep in the third quarter alone, when their lead swelled to 29.
Bellarmine will host Ohio at 1 p.m. (ET) on Dec. 30.
