LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine men's basketball team filled up the box score once again during a 98-59 victory over Berea Thursday afternoon.
For the second straight contest, all five Knights starters reached double-digit points. BU shot 53.2% (33-for-62) for the game and 41.9% (13-for-31) from three-point land. They set season bests on the offensive end in points, made threes and assists (27).
Junior forward
Langdon Hatton recorded the second double-double of his Bellarmine career, his first coming Monday versus Boyce, with 10 points on a perfect 5-for-5 shooting and 12 rebounds. The BU big man also chipped in with two assists and two blocks.
Senior guard
Garrett Tipton stayed hot from beyond the arc, knocking down four of his five three-point attempts. He finished with 18 points and added three assists.
Sophomore guard
Peter Suder (17 points), sophomore guard
Billy Smith (17) and senior guard
Bash Wieland (16) rounded out the starters.
Junior guard
Dezmond McKinney did it all for the Knights off the bench, kicking in 13 points to match his career high with nine assists, seven rebounds, five steals and a block. His assist and steal totals set new season highs for any Knight.
Louisville native and Butler High School graduate Trey Minter led the Mountaineers with 17 points.
The game was the second of two Inspiration Day games welcoming local students to Freedom Hall this week.
The Knights enjoy eight days off before their next contest on Saturday, Dec. 16 at Freedom Hall when they take on Evansville. It will be the longest layoff between games for BU this season. Bellarmine will be looking for revenge against the Purple Aces, who defeated them 73-61 last season in Evansville.
