Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Liberty distances itself from Knights with big second quarter

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Liberty is the hottest women's basketball team in the ASUN, and the Flames gave a glimpse as to why in a 77-50 victory over Bellarmine on Thursday night in Liberty Arena.

Liberty (20-7, 14-2 ASUN) moved its conference-leading winning streak to 12 games in a row despite another strong performance from senior forward Sheniqua Coatney, who registered game highs of 15 points and eight rebounds, and sophomore guard Lydia Reimbold, who tallied a career-high 12 points for the shorthanded Knights (8-21, 4-12).

Bellarmine played without sophomore guard and second-leading scorer Hayley Harrison, who was injured Sunday against North Alabama.

"Those two did a really good job," Knights Coach Chancellor Dugan said of Coatney and Reimbold. "I think Lydia came in today filling in for Hayley Harrison and did a great job. She's just gotten better and better every day in practice and worked really hard."

Bellarmine was in a relatively solid position after trailing 17-10 at the end of the first quarter, but Liberty outscored the Knights 25-7 in the second period to take a 42-17 advantage into halftime. The Flames continued to build on their lead in the third quarter.

Mya Berkman scored a team-high 14 points and Jordan Hodges added 12 for Liberty, which shot 54.5 percent from the field while limiting Bellarmine to 32.7.

Bellarmine will play at 2 p.m. (ET) Saturday at Queens.
