LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine men's tennis started its weekend slate on Saturday, and the Knights took down Eastern Illinois by a final score of 6-1.
With the victory, Bellarmine (6-5) has now won four consecutive matches and is 6-0 at home this season.
EIU (3-4) established early control by winning the doubles point. The Panthers took the no. 2 and no. 3 doubles matches, while
Jack Batchelor and
Kyle Tang teamed up for a 6-1 Bellarmine win at no. 1 doubles.
The Knights took care of business in singles, however, sweeping EIU at all six spots. Tang topped Cameron Slabbert 6-2, 6-1 at the no. 1 position, while
Matthew Nice earned a hard-fought 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 win against Pau Riera at no. 2 singles. Batchelor bested Tyler Carlin 6-1, 6-1 at the no. 3 slot, while
Paul Reynolds handled Thomas Wallace 6-3, 6-2 at no. 4 singles. Vineeet Ramesh defeated Alex Dinkov 6-2, 6-1 at no. 5 singles, and
Eli Wood cruised past Antonio Streubel by the same score at no. 6 singles.
With Nice's victory, he has now won eight consecutive singles matches this spring.
Bellarmine is back in action at home tomorrow afternoon against Belmont at 12:00 p.m.
