LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine men's tennis team opened ASUN play on Saturday afternoon, and the Knights rolled past North Alabama by a final score of 5-2.
Bellarmine (9-6, 1-0 ASUN) claimed its second conference win since joining Division I and the ASUN, while improving to 9-1 at home this season. Saturday also marks Bellarmine's first win over North Alabama.
The Knights handled business in doubles action, taking two of three matches.
Matthew Nice and
Xavier Ecarma teamed up for a 6-3 win at no. 2 doubles, while
Paul Reynolds and
Eli Wood battled to a 7-6 no. 3 doubles victory.
In singles,
Jack Batchelor topped Guilherme Diniz 6-3, 6-0 at the no. 3 position, while
Paul Reynolds rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 no. 4 singles win over Nazar Fedoryshyn.
Vineet Ramesh also picked up a three-set win 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 against Chris Zhang at no. 5 singles, and
Eli Wood defeated Federricos Scotuzzi 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 at the no. 6 spot.
Wood extends his team-best seven-match win streak in singles to eight, while Reynolds has now won seven in a row. After Saturday, Ramesh has also won his last six singles matches.
The Knights are back in action Thursday afternoon at Butler, with a 3:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
