INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Bellarmine men's tennis team traveled north to face Butler on Thursday and dropped a midweek non-conference match by a final score of 5-2.
The Knights (9-7, 1-0 ASUN) received singles wins from
Paul Reynolds and
Matthew Nice, but the Bulldogs (10-6, 1-1 Big East) improved to 4-0 at home this season.
With wins at no. 1 and no. 3 doubles, Butler claimed the doubles point.
In singles, Nice played in the no. 1 slot for Bellarmine and topped Thomas Brennan 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 in a hard-fought match. Reynolds also went three sets at no. 3 singles, rallying to defeat Borja Miralles 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 for his eighth consecutive singles win.
Xavier Ecarma battled to three sets at no. 6 singles, but dropped his match to Aidan William 6-4, 3-6, 10-4.
The Knights are back in action at home this Sunday, with their second ASUN match of the season. Bellarmine will face Florida Gulf Coast at 12:00 p.m. inside the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
