NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Bellarmine softball team opened its ASUN season at Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon. The Knights, beginning their third season in the ASUN, dropped a pair of games to the Bisons.
Bellarmine (1-21) fell by a final score of 8-1 in game one and 4-0 in game two.
Game One
Lipscomb loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning, but the Knights escaped allowing just one run.
Bellarmine sophomore slugger Chloe Collins proceeded to tie the game in the second inning with her team-best fifth home run of the season.
The Bisons scored the next three runs and led 4-1 going to the fifth inning. Bellarmine picked up a pair of singles from Addison Kerr and Caitlyn Watson, but the Knights were unable to draw closer.
Lipscomb nabbed insurance with four runs over the fifth and sixth innings, locking up the 8-1 win.
The Bisons held an 11-4 edge in hits and struck out just once. Kamrie Rich led the Lipscomb attack, going 3-3 with a home run and double.
Collins, Kerr, Watson, and Megan Konermann each claimed a hit for Bellarmine. Elli Jensen and Carson Goatley each pitched for the Knights, while Emily Yakubowski went six innings and earned the win for Lipscomb.
Game Two
Lipscomb totaled its four runs over the first four innings of game two. Jack Busch hit a RBI double to give the Bisons a 1-0 lead in the second inning, while Josey Polk and Rich scored on a Bellarmine error in the third to move ahead 3-0. Kaylyn Belfield crossed home on a pickoff play in the fourth inning for Lipscomb.
Anna Greenwell and
Chloe Collins both singled for Bellarmine in the second contest of the day.
Claire Lehmkuhler tossed all six innings for Bellarmine, striking out seven in the process.
Kita Brinkley earned the complete game win for Lipscomb – her third of the season.
Bellarmine wraps up its road series against Lipscomb tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
