LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine women's tennis began its week with a home match against Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday, and the Knights fell by a final score of 7-0.
"We had some opportunities today," Knights Head Coach Brian Slack said. "Credit to FGCU for coming up with the closing points. I'm proud of the way our team fought and how Ekaterina and Vendula battled into their third sets."
Bellarmine came close to claiming the doubles point as the no.1 team of Vendula Kryslova and Ekaterina Tikhonko cruised to a 6-2 win. Hanley Riner and Channing Varnum battled at the no. 3 doubles slot but came up just a little short, losing 7-6.
Tikhonko and Kryslova put up strong fights in singles action but both Knights players lost in three sets. Tikhonko took the first set from Emma Bardet at no.1 singles, but Bardet rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory. Kryslova dropped her no. 2 singles match 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 against Fanny Norin.
Bellarmine continues its homestand Friday with an 8:00 a.m. match against Queens.
Bellarmine is back in action Wednesday with a home match against Florida Gulf Coast at 10:00 a.m.
