North Florida bests Bellarmine in Saturday doubleheader

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In Bellarmine's first games in Florida this season, North Florida topped the Knights in a pair of ASUN contests on Saturday afternoon.

UNF claimed game one 1-0 and game two by a final score of 5-0.

Game One

The first game was a pitcher's duel with the Knights and Ospreys combining for eight total hits.

UNF scored the lone run of the game in the third inning.  Savannah Channell walked with one out, and Kayla Harper followed with a single.  Hadlee Reichert then came through with a RBI single up the middle, driving in Channell.

The Knights, however, created quality chances to tie or take the lead in the sixth and seventh innings.  After an Emily O'Dee single and UNF error in the sixth, BU had first and third with no outs, but three consecutive flyouts ended the threat.

In the seventh, Addison Kerr and Madison Davis both singled, but UNF escaped the jam and locked up the win.

Despite the loss, Claire Lehmkuhler turned in another marvelous performance in the circle, allowing just one run and five hits over six innings pitched.  Izzy Kelly lasted 6.2 innings for UNF, and earned the win, while Skyler Stockie picked up the last out and the save.

Game Two

While totaling just six hits in game two, the UNF offense was more effective on the bottom line, scoring five runs.

An unearned run in the first inning pushed the Ospreys in front before adding four runs over the fourth, fifth, and sixth.  Due to a pair of Bellarmine errors, just three of UNF's five runs were earned.

The Knights picked up two hits in the second contest with a double from Alexis Hargrove and single from Davis.

Carson Goatley put forth a strong performance, allowing just two earned runs over five innings in the circle for Bellarmine.  Elli Jensen entered and tossed the sixth inning for the Knights.

Ashley Connor went six innings for UNF and nabbed her ninth win of the season.

The series finale is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. tomorrow.
