LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University baseball team split a Friday doubleheader with Stetson, capturing a 6-3 victory in the opener before falling 14-3 in the tail end in ASUN play at Knights Field.
Bellarmine moved to 9-22 overall and 4-7 in the ASUN, while Stetson is now 20-12 and 8-3.
Game 1: Bellarmine 6, Stetson 3
Senior right-hander
Drew Buhr excelled on the mound, securing his team-high fourth win while finishing one strikeout shy of matching a career high after fanning nine. Buhr allowed only one run on four hits in 6.2 innings.
Senior right-hander
Matt Craven tossed the final 2.1 innings. Trailing 6-3, Stetson had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth when Craven induced a game-ending foul out by Yohann Dessureault.
Senior designated hitter
Colin Bertsch had a two-out RBI single in the third. The teams were tied at 1 in the sixth when the Knights erupted for four runs.
The go-ahead run came across after senior pinch hitter
Tommy Dilz cranked an RBI double down the right-field line. With two outs, junior first baseman
Davis Crane laced an RBI single and junior left fielder
Reed Blaszczyk followed by ripping an RBI double. The Knights added yet another run when Crane scored on a wild pitch.
Bellarmine added an insurance run in the eighth to make it 6-1 when freshman shortstop
Luke Scales led off with a single and eventually scored on a base hit by Blaszczyk.

Will Aubel had two hits apiece as the Knights amassed 13 in the opener.
Game 2: Stetson 14, Bellarmine 3
Extra-base hits by Stetson were a big storyline in the tail end. The Hatters had nine of them, including three homers and six doubles. Dessureault launched two of the long balls.
Stetson scored four runs in the third and followed with three different innings of three runs. The Hatters accumulated 15 hits and were backed by a strong start by Anthony DeFabbia, who fired 6.0 scoreless innings before Bellarmine scored three runs on him in the seventh.
Bertsch was responsible for the Knights' first run when he belted a solo shot for his fourth homer of the season. Scales and senior second baseman
Dylan Byerly added RBI singles in the seventh.
Senior third baseman
Peyton Back led Bellarmine in the tail end by going 3-for-3.
The teams will conclude the series with a single contest at noon (ET) Saturday.
