LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University baseball team followed one of its best offensive showings of the season with one of its most underwhelming in a 4-0 loss to Queens on Saturday in ASUN action at Knights Field.
Right-hander Jeremy Maidhof required only 84 pitches to record a complete-game shutout of Bellarmine (12-39, 7-19 ASUN) for Queens (14-36, 7-19). In Friday's run-rule victory in the series opener, the Knights piled up 14 runs on 17 hits, but Maidhof kept them off board by allowing just six hits and pitching to contact — he only struck out one but he also only walked one.
The lack of offense spoiled a strong start by
Nolan Pender, who set a new career high with 12 strikeouts. The senior right-hander allowed two runs on six hits over 6.0 innings pitched. Sophomore right-hander
Arren Hash tossed 1.0 scoreless inning of relief.
Bellarmine's six base hits were all singles, with senior left fielder
Tommy Dilz collecting two of them.
Dilz,
Colin Bertsch,
Gabe Bratetic,
Dylan Byerly,
Matt Craven,
Brett Pfaadt and
Ashton Smith were honored on Senior Day.
The teams will meet at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday in the series finale.
