LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Queens notched a second straight shutout of the Bellarmine University baseball team, notching an 11-0 win Sunday at Knights Field to secure their ASUN series.
Bellarmine's struggles at the plate carried over from Saturday, as the Knights (12-40, 7-20 ASUN) registered only five hits against Queens (15-36, 8-19) and right-hander Zach Kelly, who tossed a 7.0-inning, complete-game shutout while striking out nine.
Bellarmine had chances to build momentum, but Queens was able to throw baserunners out at home in the second and third innings. The Knights had four hits through three innings, but junior outfielder
Reed Blaszczyk's triple in the sixth was the only one thereafter.
Senior right-hander
Matt Craven fired three shutout innings to start the game for Bellarmine. An error to open the fourth opened the door for Queens to score three unearned runs, including two off a homer by Andrew McDermott.
Queens added two more runs in the fifth and six in the sixth en route to the run-rule victory. The Royals managed to score their 11 runs on eight hits, as they also drew five walks and were twice hit by a pitch.
Senior second baseman
Dylan Byerly extended his hitting streak to 14 games for Bellarmine. Senior right-hander
Ryan Johnson fired an inning of scoreless relief.
The Knights will host Murray State at 3 p.m. (ET) Tuesday in their final home game of the season.
