LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hitting at a high level is what Matt Higgins does, and that didn't change in his first stop in Minor League Baseball.

As a result, the former Bellarmine University All-American and 2022 ASUN Player of the Year earned a promotion in the San Francisco Giants' farm system, as Higgins has been called up to the High-A affiliate Eugene Emeralds.

In his first year of pro ball, Higgins excelled for the Giants' Class-A affiliate, the San Jose Giants, batting .309/.400/.492 in 64 games. The Louisville native amassed nine homers, 18 doubles, 51 RBI, 50 runs scored and nine stolen bases. Defensively, not only is he playing his customary outfield, but he's also been stationed at first base.

Higgins' MiLB production follows suit from his college career. He was a Division II All-American as a sophomore and continued to hit at an elite level after the program's move to Division I, garnering D1 All-America accolades as a fifth-year senior along with being recognized as the ASUN Player of the Year.

Owning a slew of program records, Higgins finished his Knights career with a .372/.463/.657 slash line along with 45 homers, 57 doubles and 185 RBI. In his final season, when Higgins became Bellarmine athletics' first-ever D1 All-American from the D2 transitioning programs, the product of Trinity (Ky.) High School hit .366/.469/.770 with 22 homers, 20 doubles and 61 RBI.
