LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
Peter Suder recorded his second 20-point game of the season, but the Bellarmine men's basketball team dropped their Atlantic Sun opener to Austin Peay Thursday night at Freedom Hall, 84-68.
Suder matched a season high with eight field goals, now done three times. He also pulled down a season-high nine rebounds and dished out three assists. His strong performance followed up an 18-point, six-assist effort in the nonconference finale at High Point.
Ben Johnson scored 12 points as a follow-up to his career-high 32 on Saturday.
Garrett Tipton was the Knights' other double-digit scorer with 15.
Bellarmine (4-12, 0-1) outshot Austin Peay (8-8, 1-0) 44.8% to 41.5%, but APSU was able to pour in 12 threes to the BU's eight. The Governors also outscored the Knights at the charity stripe 18-8 and outrebounded them 41-33.
Dezi Jones paced APSU with 21 points, though he hit on only 6-of-19 field goal attempts. Three of the Governors' four other starters also reached double figures: Ja'Monta Black (14), Demarcus Sharp (13) and Isaac Haney (13).
The Knights will get another shot at the Governors in the regular season finale in Clarksville, Tenn., on March 1.
