LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The rain-soaked conditions didn't seem to make a difference. The Bellarmine University men's soccer team was rested and ready.
On Tuesday afternoon in nonconference action, sophomore midfielder
Calle Sjoberg scored in the first half and the defense put the clamps on IU Indianapolis as the Knights captured a 1-0 victory in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
Freshman forward
Colin Elder notched an assist for Bellarmine (3-4-3), which had not played since Oct. 5 after Saturday's ASUN contest with FGCU was postponed due to travel complications for the Eagles as a result of the hurricane.
Sjoberg's first goal of the season snapped a three-game scoreless streak for Bellarmine's offense. From near the end line, Elder crossed to Sjoberg near the 6, and he rifled a shot inside the far post for a 1-0 lead over IU Indianapolis (4-6-3), which was formerly known as IUPUI.
Bellarmine's defense posted its second straight shutout and fourth overall. The Knights were particularly stingy in the second half, allowing IU Indianapolis a lone shot attempt.
Bellarmine totaled five shots in each half and finished with a 10-7 advantage over the Jaguars, including 6-1 on frame. The Knights also had a 9-1 superiority on corner kicks.
Bellarmine returns to ASUN action at 7 p.m. (ET) Saturday at North Florida.
