LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University men's basketball team took the floor at Knights Hall to take on outside competition for the first time this fall on Tuesday morning in an exhibition game against Division III Centre. The Knights hit 13-of-26 three-point attempts in a 92-68 route of the Colonels.
Junior forward
Jack Karasinski hit six of his seven shot attempts, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, en route to 16 points in just 12 minutes of play. Junior guard
Billy Smith led the Knights with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting, 4-for-6 from deep. Smith also grabbed a game-high seven steals on the afternoon.
Like Smith, junior
Landin Hacker also went 4-of-6 from deep.
As a team, Bellarmine connected on 31-of-57 field goal attempts (54.4 percent) and led by as many as 27. They held a 42-29 lead at the half before hitting an even 50 points in the second half.
Nearly every player on the Knights roster earned minutes on Tuesday. Seven players recorded multiple assists with Smith and Karasinski each handing out three. Additionally, seven players recorded a steal.
Curt Hopf and
Myles Watkins were held out, but are expected to be ready for the season opener.
For Centre, Landen Hamilton scored 13 points and dished out a game-high four assists. Kalib Thomas added 11 points.
Bellarmine now waits to head to Virginia Commonwealth to begin the regular season on Monday, November 4. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
