LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University volleyball team opened its short, two-match home stand on Wednesday night, falling 3-0 to in-state ASUN foe Eastern Kentucky in Knights Hall.
With the loss, Bellarmine moves to 4-11 on the year, 1-4 in ASUN play while the win improves Eastern Kentucky to 11-7 overall, 2-3 in conference action.
Set one began as a back-and-forth affair but once Eastern Kentucky stepped on the gas with a 5-0 run, the Colonels never let up, taking the first set 25-14. Bellarmine held a 7-4 lead to begin the second stanza, but EKU quickly turned the game on its head with a 14-0 run before closing the set out 25-12. Another back-and-forth affair to start the third, the Colonels finally took control with an 8-4 lead. From there, Bellarmine battled to stay in the match but was never able to make up enough ground to truly mount a comeback. A late push saw the Knights get within six, down 20-14, but the damage was done as EKU ultimately pulled out a 25-19 win.
Sophomore
Natalie Bland once again led the Knights with 10 kills, marking her seventh straight match with double-digit kills, while also contributing five digs. Senior
Jayda Harris and junior
Kylie Van Hoy were next on the kills list, tallying four each. In addition, Van Hoy recorded 17 assists, six digs, two blocks and one ace. Graduate student
Mara Perry led Bellarmine with 17 digs, her 12
th match of the season with double-digit digs.
