LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bellarmine University men's soccer senior defender
Austin Yowell was acknowledged by the United Soccer Coaches as second-team All-Atlantic Region.
Yowell maintained an impressive stretch of regional recognition for the program. He became Bellarmine's fourth USC All-Region selection in five Division-I seasons following defender Jonas Skulstad (2020), defender
Brock Pope (2023) and midfielder
Brendan Schoemehl (2023).
Yowell's All-Region accolade followed his first-team All-ASUN citation, which had validated his Preseason All-ASUN Team notice. The native of Phoenix, Arizona, was also honored on the Academic All-ASUN Team, which is a hybrid award recognizing both academic and on-field excellence. He landed on the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District Team as well.
In his swan song, Yowell improved upon his second-team All-ASUN laurel his junior year, which was his first at Bellarmine. He led the Knights in assists with four and was second in points with eight while supplying two goals. The left back also topped the team in minutes with 1,359 while helping spearhead the ASUN's second-ranked defensive unit (1.19 GAA).
Yowell was among the conference's most dangerous weapons on set pieces. In addition to his assist-producing service, he provided one of the program's most memorable goals in the D1 era, burying a free kick in the 89th minute of a 1-1 draw at Stetson in the regular-season finale that propelled the Knights to securing the clinching point in their improbable surge to an ASUN Tournament bid.
In the ASUN Tournament quarterfinals, Yowell drilled a penalty kick to account for the team's goal in a 1-1 stalemate with FGCU. He had a notable two-assist performance in a 2-1 road win over Northern Kentucky in the regular season. Yowell capped the regular season by landing the ASUN's final Defensive Player of the Week honor.
