STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Bellarmine University women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at Mississippi State on Sunday.
Bellarmine (6-7) did earn the doubles point against Mississippi State (8-2) as freshmen
Erica Kanna Hagi and
Nikola Kollaritsch defeated Dharani Niroshan and Alessia Tagliente 6-2 at No. 2 and freshman
Marika Caruk and junior
Yeva Kramarova topped Chloe Cirotte and Jayna Clemens 6-4 at No. 3.
Mississippi State clinched the match with four singles wins. Junior
Ekaterina Tikhonko, at No. 1, and Hagi, at No. 4, both split the first two sets and were relatively early into third frames when the contests went unfinished. Tikhonko and sophomore
Vendula Kryslova were also engaged in a battle at No. 1 doubles when it went unfinished after the Knights secured the point.
Bellarmine will open ASUN play by hosting FGCU at 9 a.m. (ET) Wednesday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
