Women's tennis earns doubles point, battles in loss at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Bellarmine University women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at Mississippi State on Sunday.

Bellarmine (6-7) did earn the doubles point against Mississippi State (8-2) as freshmen Erica Kanna Hagi and Nikola Kollaritsch defeated Dharani Niroshan and Alessia Tagliente 6-2 at No. 2 and freshman Marika Caruk and junior Yeva Kramarova topped Chloe Cirotte and Jayna Clemens 6-4 at No. 3.

Mississippi State clinched the match with four singles wins. Junior Ekaterina Tikhonko, at No. 1, and Hagi, at No. 4, both split the first two sets and were relatively early into third frames when the contests went unfinished. Tikhonko and sophomore Vendula Kryslova were also engaged in a battle at No. 1 doubles when it went unfinished after the Knights secured the point.

Bellarmine will open ASUN play by hosting FGCU at 9 a.m. (ET) Wednesday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
