ASHEVILLE, NC — The Bellarmine University baseball team didn't come out on top, but the Knights will hope they've got momentum on their side.
On Saturday at Greenwood Baseball Field, Bellarmine put forth a monumental ninth-inning rally, piling up eight runs before UNC Asheville finally turned the Knights back 14-11 in the second game of the series.
UNC Asheville (2-5) clinched the series after also winning Friday's opener, but Bellarmine (1-5) made the Bulldogs sweat it out at the end. Trailing 14-3, the Knights managed to score eight runs on only two hits in the frame, with the tying run being in the hole before the final out was made.
Bellarmine drew five walks and had a hit batsman in the inning. Sophomore third baseman
Brady Morse had an RBI single and junior left fielder
Jacob Rowold had a two-run triple in the frame as well.
Morse went 3-for-3 with a double and two walks. Junior center fielder
Jake Agarwal added a pair of hits and runs scored. Junior right-hander
Webster Walls threw a scoreless inning of relief, but UNC Asheville collected 18 hits and had a pair of five-run innings.
The series finale is set for noon (ET) Sunday.
