LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Southern Indiana swept the Bellarmine University baseball team 8-1 and 8-4 in a Monday doubleheader at Knights Field.
Southern Indiana (7-8) took all three games from Bellarmine (1-14) in the series.
Game 1: USI 8, Bellarmine 1
Southern Indiana held a 2-0 lead after five innings, but the Screaming Eagles broke it open with a five-run sixth.
Bellarmine scored once in ninth after junior first baseman
Casey Sorg doubled, advanced on a single by junior second baseman
Andres Castro and scored on a ground out by junior left fielder
Jacob Rowold.
Starter Peyton Brown tossed 4.0 scoreless innings for USI and Gavin Seebold threw the final 5.0. The Knights collected seven hits against them, with Sorg tallying three and sophomore shortstop
Luke Scales two.
Senior right-hander
Devin Ecklar hurled 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Game 2: USI 8, Bellarmine 4
Bellarmine couldn't have started out much better, scoring four runs in the first. With two outs, senior center fielder
Will Aubel had an RBI single and junior second baseman
Webster Walls followed a run scored via an error by lacing a two-run single.
Unfortunately for Bellarmine, the big first inning produced the only runs the Knights would score. BU had issues on defense with five errors, and four of the first five runs USI scored were unearned.
The Screaming Eagles took a 5-4 lead in the third. Bellarmine kept them off the board for the next five innings, but Logan Mock highlighted a three-run ninth with a two-run homer.
Sophomore left fielder
Joey Milto went 3-for-4 for Bellarmine, and junior designated hitter
Jake Agarwal added a pair of hits. Senior right-hander
Ryan Johnson struck out five in 3.1 commanding innings of relief, and sophomore right-hander
Cole McMichael notched a scoreless inning of relief.
Bellarmine will play at Eastern Illinois at 4 p.m. (ET) Tuesday.
