Men's tennis scores 6-1 win over FGCU in ASUN action

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University men's tennis team recorded its first Atlantic Sun Conference victory of the season with a critical 6-1 win over FGCU on Friday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.

Bellarmine (6-9, 1-2 ASUN) helped set the tone by earning the doubles point against FGCU (4-8, 1-2). Junior Jack Batchelor and sophomore Matthew Nice defeated Mika Bunjes and Hugo Magnusson 6-4 at No. 1, and freshman Louie Fletcher and sophomore Eli Wood matched that score at No. 2 in a win over Pablo Paternostro and Harry Michalowski.

Senior Kyle Tang kept the momentum going at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Paternostro, and Batchelor pushed Bellarmine one away from the team "W" with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 triumph over Magnusson at No. 1.

Fletcher sealed it up for Bellarmine with a 7-5, 6-4 win over John Zakowski at No. 5. Not stopping there, sophomore Vineet Ramesh topped Bunjes 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 4, and Wood downed Michalowski 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 at No. 6.

Bellarmine will host Stetson in an ASUN contest at 2 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
