Softball shutout in series finale versus EKU

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine University softball team found itself on the wrong side of a shutout on Sunday afternoon, falling 8-0 in six innings to Eastern Kentucky University in the series finale at Knights Field.

With the loss, the Knights move to 13-27 overall, 5-13 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. With the win, the Colonels improve to 36-5 on the season, 17-1 in ASUN play.

For the third straight day, EKU got on the board first, scoring a run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. It didn't take long for the Colonels to strike again as they added another run in the following inning, extending their lead to 2-0.

The Knights held the Colonels at bay in the fourth before EKU broke the game open in the fifth, tacking on four runs on four hits to take a 6-0 lead. EKU continued to add on in the sixth, crossing the plate two more times to go up 8-0.

Bellarmine tried to rally in the home half of the sixth, getting runners on second and third but, were unable to score as the game ended 8-0 due to the run rule.

Up next, the Knights travel north to Highland Heights, Ky. for a midweek matchup against the Northern Kentucky University Norse on Wednesday, April 24 with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.
