Softball can't overcome early deficit in final home game of the season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Bellarmine softball team was unable to overcome an early deficit, dropping its final home game of the 2024 season 4-0 to University of North Alabama on Sunday morning.

With the loss, the Knights move to 13-31 on the year, 5-16 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. With the win, the Lions improve to 33-15 overall, 14-7 in ASUN in play.

Just as they have all series, the Lions jumped on top early, putting two runs on the board in the opening frame of the game.

North Alabama added another run in the third, extending its lead to 3-0.

Junior Harlie Bickett got the home of the fourth started with a surge, ripping a double off the fence down the left field line. Bickett would move to third on a deep fly ball to right field but would go no further.

In the top of the sixth, UNA added a fourth and final run, taking advantage of an errant throw in the field to go up 4-0.

Bickett notched her second hit of the day in the bottom of the sixth with a hard single to right field. The single would be Bellarmine's final base runner of the game as the Knights couldn't muster a comeback in the series finale, falling 4-0.

Up next, Bellarmine wraps up its season with a final road trip, traveling to Conway, Ark. for a three-game ASUN series against Central Arkansas Friday, May 3 to Saturday, May 4.
