CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Andrew Devine carried a perfect game through five innings as Austin Peay evened its Atlantic Sun Conference series with the Bellarmine University baseball team following a 14-2 win Saturday at Raymond C. Hand Park.
After Devine retired the first 15 batters for Bellarmine (5-25, 4-7 ASUN), junior left fielder
Jacob Rowold led off the sixth inning with a sharp single to spoil the perfect game and no-hit bid for Devine (5-0) and Austin Peay (17-13, 6-5).
Bellarmine also broke up the shutout bid. Sophomore designated hitter
Charlie Rife followed Rowold with a single two batters later. Sophomore center fielder
Joey Milto drove in a run on a ground out, and junior first baseman
Casey Sorg added another on an RBI single.
Austin Peay scored two runs apiece in the first and second and followed with a six-run third. The Governors homered three times while compiling 16 hits.
The rubber game is set for 2 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
