LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville scored a pair of goals inside the first 10 minutes in jumping out quickly en route to a 7-0 win Thursday night over the Bellarmine University women's soccer team in the season opener at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
In a pregame ceremony, Louisville honored Bellarmine's
Callie McKinney, a former Cardinal (2016-19) who was making her head-coaching debut with the Knights.
Louisville (1-0) struck quickly with goals in the sixth and 10th minutes against Bellarmine (0-1), and the Cardinals tacked on a pair more in the 16th and 18th minutes to take a 4-0 lead at halftime. UofL found the net three more times in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper
Cambria Kingman piled up a career-high 12 saves for Bellarmine, several of which were of the diving variety or kick saves. The dozen saves tied a Division I-era program record first set by Elyssa Francis against Northern Kentucky in 2021.
Freshman midfielder
Brynn Severance nearly scored her first career goal in her collegiate debut, sending a shot off the right post in the second half.
Bellarmine will host Asbury at 3 p.m. (ET) Aug. 25 in its 2024 home opener.
