McKinney notches 1st career head-coaching win, Knights assault record book in 8-0 victory over Asbury

Bramer ties record with 3 assists; Nicholson records 1st D1-era hat trick, has 4 goals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Callie McKinney notched her first career win as a head coach, and the Bellarmine University women's soccer team set a slew of Division I-era program records along with impacting several overall marks in an 8-0 win Sunday afternoon over D3 Asbury at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Bellarmine (1-1) took a 2-0 lead at halftime and piled up six more goals in the second half against Asbury. It was a countable match for the Knights and an exhibition for the Eagles.

The performance shook up the program record book for the Knights:
  • Emma Nicholson set a new D1-era record and was one goal shy of tying the overall program record after netting four goals. It was Bellarmine's first hat trick in the D1 era. The senior forward/midfielder added an assist in rewriting the D1-era mark for points with nine, which was just two shy of tying the overall record.
  • Dakota Bramer set a new D1-era record and tied the overall program record with three assists. All three of the sophomore defender's helpers came in the second half.
  • Rachel Skyberg tallied two goals and two assists. The sophomore midfielder's six points tied for eighth all-time in a single game and were second behind Nicholson in the D1 era.
  • Bellarmine set new overall and D1-era program records with eight assists. Six had been the previous record.
  • Bellarmine's eight goals tied for fourth all-time and doubled the D1-era record.
  • Bellarmine's 24 points ranked second all-time and more than doubled the previous D1-era high of 11.
  • Bellarmine's 37 overall shots and 21 shots on goal both ranked third all-time and were new D1-era records.
In addition to Nicholson and Skyberg, junior forward Lucy von Stefenelli accounted for the game-winning goal after locating the net in the second minute, while senior forward Sophie Bish capped the scoring in the 79th minute.

Along with the aforementioned assists from Bramer, Skyberg and Nicholson, freshman defender Mckenzie Price and freshman midfielder Brynn Severance had a helper apiece.

Bellarmine's defense notched its first shutout of the season, limiting Asbury to two shots. Senior goalkeepers Cambria Kingman and Natalie Schutte stopped both, with each collecting a save.

Bellarmine honored 13 on Senior Day, a celebration that included Brooklynn Allen, Grace Barber, Bish, Kailyn Bridges, Ashlyn Fuller, Katie Gawrys, Kingman, Hannah Longstreet, Avery Mahon, Nicholson, Alexa Orozco, Sidney Rigsby and Schutte.

Bellarmine will host Morehead State at 7 p.m. (ET) Thursday. It will be Staff Appreciation Night.
