Tippey's goal in 90th minute lifts Knights to electrifying 2-1 win over Stetson

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Personified by sophomore forward Lauren Bingham's climactic hustle play, the Bellarmine University women's soccer team was in no mood to settle for a draw.

The Knights doggedly pursued the victory — and they won the chase.

On Thursday night in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium amid a steady second-half downpour, freshman forward Campbell Tippey scored in the 90th minute to lift Bellarmine to a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Stetson in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

The dramatic victory was the first for Bellarmine (2-6-2, 1-1-1 ASUN) in conference action and piggy-backed off a satisfying scoreless draw at defending ASUN regular-season champion Lipscomb. Senior midfielder Emma Nicholson scored the first of the Knights' two second-half goals against the Hatters (5-6, 0-3).

Bingham was responsible for creating the game-winning goal. With less than one minute remaining, her relentless pursuit of a pass back toward the corner of the box produced a steal. From there, Bingham crossed to a hard-charging Tippey in perfect stride at the 6, and Tippey made a leaping one-touch to redirect the ball into the net.

Tippey's first collegiate goal was a game-winner. It came on Bingham's first collegiate assist.

The breathtaking sequence capped Bellarmine's comeback from a 1-0 halftime deficit. Stetson was fouled in the box, and Stella Comana converted the ensuing penalty kick in the 22nd minute.

Bellarmine equalized in the 52nd minute. After a throw-in by freshman defender Aubrey Bally, sophomore forward Rachel Skyberg found Nicholson, who buried a shot from 14 yards inside the far post to level the contest at 1. It was Nicholson's team-high sixth goal of the season. Bally tallied her first career assist and point, and Skyberg collected her third assist of the season.

The goals were Bellarmine's first two in ASUN play. The Knights finished with a 13-10 advantage in shots, including 6-5 on frame, and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Cambria Kingman amassed four saves.

Bellarmine will host FGCU in an ASUN contest at 1 p.m. (ET) Sunday.
