LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine fell to Kent State in Mid-American Conference field hockey action Friday afternoon at Trager Stadium, 3-0.
Kent State (3-8, 2-3 MAC) controlled possession well against Bellarmine (2-11, 2-3 MAC), firing 15 shots (eight on goal) to Bellarmine's four (one on goal). The Golden Flashes also earned seven penalty corners to the Knights' one.
On Kent State's first penalty corner with just over five minutes gone in the game, Maia Sarrabayrouse drew a hard foul by
Luna Tuncay, awarding a penalty stroke to the visitors. Lauren Conroy would convert for the game's first score.
The Golden Flashes added to their lead just four minutes later. Eva Usoz used a backhanded chip shot from deep on the left shoulder to go over the reach of
Kailey Workman and into the cage for a 2-0 KSU lead.
Bellarmine had a chance to cut Kent State's lead in half when they earned their first penalty corner midway through the third. Tuncay sent a screamer to the back of the cage, but the goal was disallowed as the sophomore was called for a dangerous shot with her high backswing.
The visitors would tack on one more score when Louisville native and Assumption product Emma Seger scored on a rebound of a Workman save with 6:14 remaining in the third. The senior's third score of the season, her first since netting a pair in the season opener, gave KSU a 3-0 lead.
Workman finished with four saves while her counterpart, Alli Wood, saved the lone Bellarmine shot on goal by
Cami Paris.
