CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas scored in the 83rd minute in defeating the Bellarmine University women's soccer team 1-0 in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Thursday night at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.
Bellarmine (8-5-2, 2-5 ASUN) was maddeningly close to scoring on multiple occasions against Central Arkansas (5-8-2, 2-4-2). Redshirt senior defender
Sidney Rigsby had a shot deflect off the crossbar inside the first 10 minutes while sophomore midfielder
Brynn Severance had an attempt carom off the crossbar in the 77th minute.
Central Arkansas broke through with a little over seven minutes remaining. Trace Pavatt beat the defense down the left side, and the Bears had favorable numbers going forward. Near the end line, Pavatt crossed to Sakiko Manabe, who converted the clean look for her second goal of the season.
Bellarmine doubled the shot total of Central Arkansas, finishing with an 18-9 advantage. However, the Bears had a 6-4 edge on frame. The Knights had a 7-3 advantage in attempts in the first half and an 11-6 edge in the second half.
Bellarmine will continue ASUN play at 2 p.m. (ET) Sunday at North Alabama.
