Field Hockey fails to find the net in 1-0 neutral site loss to Queens (NC)

Knights lost despite outshooting the opposition 17-8

ATHENS, OH -- An early allowed goal and multiple missed opportunities told the story of the afternoon, as Bellarmine Knights Field Hockey saw its two-game winning streak snapped by the Queens University (NC) Royals in a neutral-site matchup on Saturday in Athens, OH.  With the loss, the Knights fall to 2-9 on the season.

Queens scored what would be the only goal of the day just under three minutes into the match.  The Knights were awarded two penalty corners in the first quarter, both of which led to shots from Luna Tuncay, but neither were able to find the back of the net.  The Royals also were awarded two penalty corners following their first goal, and were also unable to convert, as the score remained 1-0 going into the second quarter.  The Knights afforded themselves another penalty corner opportunity a minute and a half into the second period, but another shot, this one from Alicia Hudson, was blocked.  Cami Paris got off the only other shot of the period for either team in the quarter.

Following a scoreless third quarter, the Knights were awarded with four more penalty corners in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, but again were unable to take advantage, as multiple shots from both Tuncay and Alicia Hudson were unable to put the Knights on the board.  Alicia Hudson took three more shots off of penalty corners in the final seven minutes, but again, was unable to find the tying goal.

Alicia Hudson led the Knights with a career high seven shots, two of which were on goal.  Tuncay also set a new career high with five shots, three of which were on goal.  Madison Patton had a season high three shots, all of which were on goal.  Paris and Brooke Buchanan both also each registered a shot, with Buchanan's being on goal.

Despite the loss, the Knights outshot the Royals 17-8, 9-4 in shots on goal, and were afforded 11 penalty corners to Queens' seven.

Up next, the Knights will return to the Derby City, where they will take on the Louisville Cardinals in a road game at Trager Stadium on Tuesday, October 7 at 5 PM.
