LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Bellarmine Knights Field Hockey was defeated 6-0 in a cross-town matchup against the Louisville Cardinals on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Knights drop to 2-10 overall on the season.
Louisville drew first blood just over five minutes into the contest. A couple of minutes later,
Lilli Vera was able to get in close to the goal for a shot, but her attempt went just wide to the left. The Cardinals added another goal with 5:37 remaining in the first period and then scored a third goal off of a corner penalty to put the Knights in a 3-0 hole going into the second quarter. The Knights did not get off a shot in the second quarter, but were able to keep Louisville off the board for the period, as the score remained 3-0 at halftime.
The third quarter saw a barrage of penalty corner opportunities for Louisville, of which the Knights were able to withstand three before a goal off of a fourth one with just over four minutes remaining in the period made it 4-0 going into the fourth quarter. A goal by the Cardinals just under a minute into the final period and another goal with 6:27 remaining made the final result 6-0.
Vera's first quarter shot was the only one that the Knights recorded. Bellarmine was held without a penalty corner and a shot on goal. Louisville recorded 18 shots, 12 of which were on goal, and had a total of six penalty corners.
Up next, the Knights will resume Mid-American Conference action as they host the Kent State Golden Flashes on Friday, October 10 at 3 PM.
