EKU bests women's soccer in 1st of 2 straight meetings

Knights will turn around and host Colonels next Sunday

RICHMOND, Ky. — Eastern Kentucky scored four first-half goals in defeating the Bellarmine University women's soccer team 5-1 on Sunday in Atlantic Sun Conference play at EKU Soccer Field.

EKU (8-2-3, 3-1-1 ASUN) scored in the sixth, 24th, 28th and 34th minutes of the first half against the Knights (8-3-2, 2-3). The Colonels found the net again in the 60th minute as five different players accounted for the goals.

Bellarmine broke up EKU's shutout bid in the 81st minute. Redshirt senior defender Sidney Rigsby scored her third goal of the season off a rebound of a saved shot by redshirt junior forward Sophie Roebel.

Eastern Kentucky held an 11-3 advantage in shots at halftime, but the attempts ended at 16 apiece.

In an ASUN scheduling quirk, the two teams will turn around and play at 1 p.m. (ET) next Sunday in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
