Women's basketball defeated by Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Playing its fourth game in five days along with its second straight Power 4 opponent, the Bellarmine University women's basketball team was defeated 90-41 by Illinois on Tuesday at State Farm Center.

Sophomore forward Kayce Hyman and sophomore guard Ava Smith had nine points apiece for injury-riddled Bellarmine (2-8), which had a quick turnaround after playing Friday-Sunday in the Louisville MTE, the latter against the nationally ranked Cardinals.

Sophomore forward Rachel Shropshire grabbed seven rebounds and junior guard Triniti Ralston tallied four steals against Illinois (7-1), which moved to 6-0 at home this season.

The Fighting Illini had four players score in double figures and took full advantage of their size and Bellarmine's lack of depth with 27 offensive rebounds and 62 points in the paint.

Bellarmine will play at 2 p.m. (ET) Sunday at Chattanooga.
