LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Playing in its first two home matches of the season, the Bellarmine University women's tennis team tallied its first two wins of the season, defeating University of the Cumberlands 6-1 and Marian University (Ind.) 5-0 on Saturday at the Eddie Weber Tennis Center.
With the wins, Bellarmine improves to 2-6 on the season. Cumberlands, playing its first match of the spring, drops to 0-1 and Marian moves to 9-4 overall.
The Knights began the day against the Patriots. In doubles,
Yeva Kramarova and
Ekaterina Tikhonko and
Marika Caruk and
Shu Grosso got BU on the board early, winning their doubles match to secure the point.
In singles, all five of the six Knights found success, winning their matchups. Kramarova, playing at No. 5 singles, had the longest road to victory after dropping her first set 6-2 before settling in for a 6-4, 1-0 win
Against Marian, the doubles pairs of
Nikola Kollaritsch and
Reese Parker and
Marika Caruk and
Shu Grosso got the job done for Bellarmine, winning their matches 6-3 and 6-1 respectively, to secure the doubles point.
In singles, Caruk and Parker won in straight sets while Tikhonko and Kollaritsch both had work to do after falling in their first sets.
Overall, the day was the most successful of the season for the Bellarmine as the team collected 13 total wins across both matches.
Up next, Bellarmine will end its homestand with a final match at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex, hosting Oakland City University on Friday, February 7.
