LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Bellarmine women's tennis got back in the win column on Friday morning, defeating Queens 6-1 at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex for its first ASUN victory of the season.
The Knights (3-16, 1-5 ASUN) snap a 10-match losing streak with the win while also putting an exclamation point on Senior Day.
Bellarmine began doubles with an advantage as Queens only started two pairs, giving
Marika Caruk and
Shu Grosso a free win on court three. On court one, seniors
Yeva Kramarova and
Ekaterina Tikhonko secured the point with a 6-3 win.
Vendula Kryslova and Reece Parker held a 4-3 lead in their doubles match before abandoning it with the point secured.
In singles, Kramarova moved to 2-0 on the day with a free, no contest win on court six. From there,
Lillie Willis and Parker turned in straight set wins, taking down their opponents 6-2, 6-1 and 6-4, 7-5, respectively. Their wins on courts five and four put the Knights ahead 4-0 and secured the team match win.
Tikhonko was the next to finish, earning a 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 1-0 (10-5) win at No. 1 singles, followed by another three-set match at No. 2 singles that saw Caruk defeat her opponent 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Queens tallied its lone point of the day after a three-set slugfest at No. 3 singles. Bellarmine's Kryslova gave it her all, but she ultimately fell 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-7 (5-7).
Up next, Bellarmine will continue its home weekend with another ASUN match on Sunday, March 30 as the Knights welcome Eastern Kentucky to the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
