Women's tennis comes up just short against FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fl. – The Bellarmine University softball ended its Florida swing with a tough 4-3 loss at Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
With the loss, Bellarmine moves to 2-12 overall and 0-3 in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

FGCU took an early lead, securing the doubles point with wins on court one and three. Despite losing the point, Vendula Kryslova and Reese Parker pulled out a 6-0 win in No. 2 doubles.

Moving to singles play, the Knights tied the match 1-1 thanks to a win by Nikola Kollaritsch on court four after her opponent retired in the second set.

The Eagles went on to win on courts one, two and six to clinch the match in their favor.

Bellarmine, however, kept fighting. After falling 6-1 in the first set on court three, Kryslova buckled in for a 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) victory. Her doubles partner, Parker, also gutted out a three- set win, taking down her opponent 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 1-0 (13-11) at No. 5 singles.

Krsylova and Parker combined for a perfect 3-0 on the day.

Up next, Bellarmine will return home for a match against University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Sunday, March 9 at the Eddie Weber Tennis Complex.
