Women's soccer to meet Asbury in 2025 road debut

8/22/2025 8:17:00 AM

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine University women's soccer team will play its first road match of the season when the Knights visit in-state foe Asbury at 7 p.m. (ET) Saturday.

The contest will be a countable game for Bellarmine (1-0) but classified as an exhibition for Division III Asbury (0-0). The two teams are meeting for the second straight year after the Knights captured an 8-0 victory in 2024 in Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.

Asbury finished the season 9-8-5 while qualifying for the NCCAA National Tournament.

KNIGHTS NOTES:
• Bellarmine has a lone goal scorer back from last year's Asbury game. Senior forward Lucy von Stefenelli netted the first of the eight goals, but the other seven were accounted for by players no longer with the Knights, including four from graduate and All-ASUN midfielder/forward Emma Nicholson.
• The Steve Bornhoffer era got off to a rousing start Sunday night as Bellarmine defeated Miami (OH) 2-0 in Frazier Stadium in his head-coaching debut with the Knights. Bornhoffer was previously an assistant coach for 14 seasons at another in-state school, Northern Kentucky, and helped lead the Norse to the 2016 Horizon League Tournament title and the 2020 regular-season championship.
• Bellarmine's win over Miami represented its first in a season opener in the D1 era.
Anna Jenkins was named ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday. In both her Bellarmine and collegiate debut, the redshirt freshman piled up eight saves against Miami, none bigger than a PK stop in the 21st minute.
• von Stefenelli sank a penalty kick in just the fourth minute against Miami, and it ultimately stood as the game-winning goal. von Stefenelli is coming off a five-goal campaign in 2024.
Sidney Rigsby tallied Bellarmine's second goal against Miami, and it marked the second goal of her career. The redshirt senior was a Preseason All-ASUN Team selection after earning second-team All-ASUN accolades last season.
Aubrey Bally had a hand in both goals against Miami. The sophomore midfielder drew the foul in the box that set up von Stefenelli's successful PK, and she followed by assisting on Rigsby's goal.
• In addition to Jenkins, redshirt sophomore defender Cameron Dye, a Marshall transfer, and true freshmen Nora Dimmitt (midfielder) and Abigail Fike (defender) made their first-ever Bellarmine starts. True freshmen Katie Paulakonis (forward) and Hope Broadwell (midfielder) also made their collegiate debuts.
